Riding from the Ground: A Primer on the Many Uses of In-Hand Schooling
Longeing, ground-driving, long-reining….all of these schooling methods take place on the ground but can improve your riding and your horse, and help you work with your horse when you can't ride! Come find out how and why it's important to do them right and safely!
Alejandra "Alex" Abella, Director of Equestrian Management, LLC, and ARIA Instructor of the Year in 2004, teaches this training module, pulling from different methods from around the world and incorporating the philosophies of various trainers. Most trainers agree that riding begins on the ground, because what the horse will not do for you in-hand, he will not do under saddle. Come learn about the progression from correct longeing, to ground-driving, on to long-reining. The reasons and benefits for each method, when you might choose to use them, and the necessary tack and tools, will be introduced and discussed as the methods are presented. Part of Equestrian Management's Training Modules series, the clinic is taught in a group setting, with all participants working together or independently toward the same goal, so all disciplines are welcome. This is a hands-on lecture that will encourage active participation, but attendees may also chose to simply watch and learn and ask questions. Sources of information will also be made available for those who want to learn more about in-hand schooling beyond this primer.
This clinic is 2.5 hours long, and includes lunch in the Member Lounge. Please call or e-mail to RSVP!
